“Ex-wife took out 20 life insurance policies under Kim Byung-man’s name… Beneficiaries are also her and adopted daughter” Shocking

(Seoul=News1) Reporter So Bom-yi reports that comedian Kim Byung-man has fully refuted his ex-wife’s allegations of habitual assault. Amidst the ongoing divorce proceedings, Kim was reportedly shocked to discover belatedly that there were about 20 life insurance policies under his name.

Attorney Lim from the law firm Im Sarah, representing Kim Byung-man, appeared on the YouTube channel ‘Entertainment President Lee Jin-ho’ on the 13th to discuss the background of the ex-wife’s revelations.

According to Attorney Lim, Kim was caught off guard by the sudden revelations from his ex-wife, especially since it emerged during the conclusion of their case. Lim speculated that Kim’s ongoing broadcast activities might have triggered emotional responses from his ex-wife, who still had outstanding debts.

Lim revealed that there were 24 insurance policies registered under Kim’s name, mostly life insurance policies. While some were categorized as investment or pension insurance, they closely resembled life insurance, leading to the same assessment.

Kim was unaware of these insurance policies until the divorce proceedings. Lim explained that during divorce litigation, financial transaction information is exchanged to assess each other’s assets. This was how the insurance and accounts were discovered.

During his involvement in the divorce lawsuit, Kim was filming in remote locations abroad. Lim noted that contemplating someone potentially awaiting his death was likely distressing for him during such travels.

The beneficiaries of the insurance policies under Kim’s name were mainly his ex-wife, with some policies naming her biological daughter, who was also Kim’s adopted daughter. In contrast, Kim was not the beneficiary of any policies under his ex-wife’s name.

Attorney Lim also mentioned that Kim initiated annulment proceedings for his adoption alongside the divorce. The registered child in Kim’s family includes his ex-wife’s daughter from her previous marriage, whom Kim had adopted as his own during their marriage. However, legal annulment of such an adoption requires a court process, hence the necessary lawsuit.

Lim added that since the daughter is now an adult in college, Kim might be considering a future where he remarries and has his own children, prompting the desire to resolve these matters.

Regarding the assault allegations, Lim emphasized that they were baseless. On the claimed date of the assault, Kim was filming ‘Law of the Jungle’ and was not in the country, which immigration records verified.

In conclusion, Lim pointed out, “The police thoroughly investigated the claims. The documents provided by the ex-wife are the same ones submitted during the divorce lawsuit; they were not a shock. There is a misconception due to the issue being forwarded to the prosecution, but family violence automatically gets referred. It has already been sent with a recommendation for non-indictment.”
