Choi Jung-won, a former member of the group UN, was recently accused by an individual, referred to as A, of being in an inappropriate relationship with A’s wife, B. Despite these allegations being made public, Choi’s representatives have dismissed them as “groundless.”
On January 6, according to Star News, Choi’s legal representative stated that while there was a lower court ruling that recognized some level of improper conduct between Choi and B in an ongoing divorce lawsuit filed by A, the decision has been appealed by B and is not final. The representative also indicated that this ruling does not directly impact Choi’s civil lawsuit, as it lacked specific evidence and could potentially be overturned.
In response to A’s claim that Choi was involved with multiple women, including B, Choi’s team warned against spreading false information. They emphasized that such allegations, including the claim of Choi being improperly involved with “11 women,” are not true.
The legal team’s statement also highlighted that although both Choi and A faced criminal investigations, the results were different for each. Choi was cleared of charges, whereas A had been found guilty of various offenses in criminal court, including defamation by linking Choi’s relationships to financial motives. Further complaints about A’s repeated unlawful actions have been submitted and are currently under police investigation.
Earlier, A filed a 100 million won lawsuit against Choi for damages in December 2022, accusing him of having an inappropriate relationship with A’s wife, B. Choi denied any such romantic link, clarifying that B was only a long-known friend from the neighborhood. Choi, in turn, filed charges against A for threats, defamation, and other offenses, while A counter-sued.
The controversy resurfaced on January 6 after a divorce ruling related to A and B was publicized. On December 4, the Seoul Family Court had ruled that B was responsible for their marital breakdown and ordered her to compensate A with 30 million won. The court pointed out that B had intensified conflicts with her husband by lying about attending social gatherings and instead meeting Choi.
A claimed that although B initially demanded 1.1 billion won as compensation, she ended up having to pay damages. A also noted that details of Choi’s alleged affair were included in the court’s judgment. A mentioned receiving numerous reports about other victims of Choi, asserting that his wife was among potentially 11 involved women.
A further alleged that despite Choi claiming to have social anxiety and panic disorder in an interview, he openly celebrated birthdays with multiple women, something A learned through a contact who shared photos of such events. A expressed frustration, vowing to donate any compensation received from the lawsuit and to publicize it on Instagram, countering claims that the lawsuit was financially motivated.
