Baek Jong-won Faces Another Ingredient Controversy: Promoted Domestic Garlic but Used ‘Chinese’

Baek Jong-won, CEO of The Born Korea and television personality, is embroiled in ongoing controversy. Following the issue of using Chinese-sourced meju (fermented soybean blocks) in their doenjang (soybean paste) products, it has been revealed that the spicy stir-fried octopus product also uses Chinese ingredients contrary to promotional claims.

It was confirmed on the 11th that the ‘Han Shinpyocha Stir-fried Octopus’ sold on The Born Korea’s The Born Mall uses Chinese garlic in its seasoning. The main ingredient, octopus, is sourced from Vietnam, while other ingredients in the sauce, such as onions and green onions, are sourced domestically.
