Comedian Jang Do-yeon has proudly showcased her 18-year friendship with Park Na-rae. On December 18th, Park Na-rae’s YouTube channel ‘Na Rae Sik’ released its 14th episode featuring close friend and comedian Jang Do-yeon. Titled ‘If you need a Christmas party, look up Na Rae Sik’, the video captures their camaraderie.
During the episode, Park Na-rae was asked if she had ever spent Christmas with Jang Do-yeon. She replied, “I think we’ve been together every Christmas except five times,” reminiscing about their shared memories. She also mentioned a benefactor who helped them in the past when they were in less favorable circumstances.
Park Na-rae explained, “After filming in Yeouido, we ran into the PD and assistant director of ‘Gag Concert’. We ended up having drinks with them, and it was the PD who brought us to ‘Comedy Big League’, while the assistant director has since become the PD of ‘Gag Concert’. They are benefactors to both me and Do-yeon, and I’m grateful to them.”
She further shared that when she suggested going to ‘Comedy Big League’ to Jang Do-yeon, the initial reaction was reluctance. Some 10% of people they knew said, “We can’t get into ‘Gag Concert’, do you think you’ll succeed there?” It was a bit of a challenge that drove them, though Jang Do-yeon, being timid, felt anxious. Park Na-rae added that their bond strengthened during this time.
When Jang Do-yeon appeared in the video, the two reminisced about their early years living together. Park Na-rae said, “How long has it been since we broadcasted somewhere with a roof over our heads without worrying about work?” However, Jang Do-yeon humorously retorted, “Why do I have to find my beginnings here? I’ll do that on my own,” which brought about laughter.
The episode also delved into their shared history of struggling with new skits during ‘Gag Concert’ recordings. Park Na-rae remembered, “Every Wednesday, we had ‘Gag Concert’ recordings. We were criticized often when new skits were evaluated. If a skit failed, there’d be no recording. Jang Do-yeon, being tall, often got called for skits by senior comedians, while I would have breaks. I’d wait eagerly for Do-yeon’s recording to finish,” to which Jang Do-yeon laughed in agreement.
Park Na-rae prepared a nostalgic meal featuring Jang Do-yeon’s favorites from the past, including kimchi pancakes, stir-fried vegetables, and yakisoba delighting Jang Do-yeon. The sequel will air on Christmas, December 25th. In a preview, Park Na-rae expressed her fondness for Jang Do-yeon, praising how enjoyable it is to meet her, while Jang Do-yeon touched Park Na-rae deeply by saying she believes she’ll always be there for her friend.
Meanwhile, the ‘Na Rae Sik’ YouTube channel releases new episodes every Wednesday at 6:30 PM.
