[OSEN=Jang Woo-young] Sanghaegi (real name Kwon Sang-hyuk), a YouTuber with 1.65 million subscribers, is under suspicion of drunk driving, and there are allegations that this is not his first offense.
On the 23rd, the Seoul Songpa Police Station announced that they arrested a man in his 30s, referred to as Mr. A, on the spot for refusing a breathalyzer test, which is a violation under the Road Traffic Act.
According to the police, Mr. A was suspected of drunk driving while operating a vehicle in the Gangnam District of Seoul at around 3:40 a.m. on the 21st. When the police, responding to a report, demanded a breath test, Mr. A refused multiple times. Ignoring the police’s order to stop the vehicle, Mr. A eventually parked his car on the roadside in Songpa District and fled, but was soon apprehended at the scene. He continued to refuse the breath test several times.
Netizens, deducing from the fact that Mr. A is a YouTuber in his 30s with 1.65 million subscribers, speculated that he might be Sanghaegi. Sanghaegi is known for various mukbang content, including real sound and challenges. He was a professional soldier before becoming a trainer in Gangnam after leaving the military. Despite his mukbang activities, he maintains a well-managed physique, which has drawn attention.
Netizens, claiming there is no other male YouTuber in his 30s with 1.65 million subscribers but Sanghaegi, have flooded his social media and YouTube channel with comments demanding the truth or his response. Some have also criticized him harshly.
Without making any official statement, Sanghaegi deleted his social media accounts, increasing the speculation. Before this information came to light, he had been actively promoting products and uploading new videos on his YouTube channel, which added to the sense of betrayal. As a result, netizens expressed their disapproval through ‘unsubscribing’, with 10,000 followers retracting their subscription in one day.
Furthermore, on the 24th, according to the police, Mr. A, accused of refusing the breath test under the Road Traffic Act, was previously punished for drunk driving. According to Article 148-2 of the Road Traffic Act, reoffending within 10 years after being sentenced with a fine or more severe punishment results in aggravated penalties.
Sanghaegi, under suspicion of drunk driving, has remained silent for two days after deleting his social media accounts. The police are investigating the amount of alcohol consumed by Mr. A and the circumstances of the incident on the day of the event. /elnino8919@osen.co.kr
