[OSEN=Ha Soo-jeong Reporter] While filming for the new series of Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ has been completed, seasons 2 and 3 are expected to be released sequentially.
According to the OSEN report on the 14th, the cast and crew of the Netflix original series ‘Squid Game’ recently finished filming for seasons 2 and 3. Starting filming last July and completing a total of 11 months until June of this year. To commemorate this, they went on a 1 night 2 day trip to Gapyeong on the 11th and 12th of last month, where they celebrated the completion of filming and wished for the success of the work, enjoying a fun time with leisure activities and a barbecue party.
Previously, it was reported exclusively by OSEN last year that seasons 2 and 3 were being produced simultaneously, but at the time, Netflix denied it by stating, “We are currently focused on season 2, and there is no simultaneous production. It has not been confirmed yet.”
However, many insiders confirmed that it is true that ‘Squid Game’ filmed seasons 2 and 3 simultaneously and emphasized, “Strictly speaking, it’s like shooting a long story and dividing it into seasons 2 and 3 for release.”
It is known that there are 6 episodes planned for season 2 of ‘Squid Game,’ and season 3 is also planned to have 6 to 7 episodes that are similar. It is expected that there won’t be a long gap between seasons 2 and 3 due to this format, similar to Netflix’s past hit ‘The Glory.’
Furthermore, various spoilers for season 2 are circulating, such as ‘Yeonghee’s boyfriend Cheolsu makes an appearance’ and ‘a more intense hardcore game XXXX will appear compared to season 1.’ There is growing interest in whether it will simply end as rumors or if the actual Cheolsu robot will appear.
Moreover, season 2 of ‘Squid Game’ is once again directed, written, and produced by Hwang Dong-hyuk, who became the first Asian to win the Director Award at the 74th Prime Time Emmy® Awards, and stars Lee Jung-jae, who also made history as the first Asian to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in the TV category. In addition to the return of Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, Gong Yoo, and Lim Si-wan from season 1, a strong cast including Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-wook, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-shim, David Lee, Choi Seung-hyun (TOP), No Jaewon, Jo Yoori, Won Ji-an, Oh Dal-su, and more have joined, raising global expectations. It is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2024.
