Actor Kim Soo-hyun’s letter to his real girlfriend during his military service has been revealed. Previously, the family of the late actress Kim Sae-ron claimed that she dated Kim Soo-hyun from late 2015, when she was a third-year middle school student, to July 2021, but this evidence contradicts that claim.
Kim Soo-hyun’s legal representative, Lawyer Ko Sang-rok (from the law firm Phil), stated on the 30th that “the actor had a real girlfriend whom he dated from 2016 to spring 2019.” According to Ko, “(Kim Soo-hyun) joined the military in October 2017 and served in the front-line DMZ recon unit from January 2018 to July 2019. All throughout his military service, he called his girlfriend whenever he could and wrote about his feelings for her daily.”
In one of the letters, Kim wrote, “Every day at the base is a reality check, but one thing is clear: I seem to be treating her better than before I enlisted. I focus on her, care for her, want her, and wait for her without thinking about anything else. I constantly miss her and want to see her. Being able to make her happy and content is something I am deeply grateful for. I also reflect a lot… I am profoundly grateful to her for waiting for me every day.”
Lawyer Ko mentioned that “the exposure of these very private writings, which were exchanged between the actor and his then-girlfriend, is an unusual and distressing situation that ordinary people do not have to experience.” Ko added, “The excerpts quoted today were submitted to the investigative agency in their original form without any embellishment.”
He further explained that “this process was deemed necessary for the restoration of the actor’s honor, and it carries certain legal significance, which is why we are obliged to clarify and explain this through the agency.”
The fact that Kim Soo-hyun had a different girlfriend during his military service period, not Kim Sae-ron, was confirmed by a report from Money Today. Kim Soo-hyun reportedly began dating actress A, who was from the same agency, around 2016 and broke up in the spring of 2019, three months before his discharge.
An entertainment industry insider noted, “The relationship between Kim Soo-hyun and A was an open secret in the industry, so it is unlikely that he was seeing Kim Sae-ron at the same time. There were also a few rumors about Kim Soo-hyun and A dating. I heard that Kim Soo-hyun frequently sent letters to A while serving in the military.”
The insider added, “It seems the Kim Soo-hyun side is being cautious in mentioning A to avoid putting her in an awkward position. We hope the truth comes to light soon.”
