The 37th Memorial Service for Samsung Founder Lee Byung-chul… Held by the Samsung Family in Yongin

Samsung founder Ho-Am Lee Byung-chul’s 37th memorial service will be held on the 19th at the family burial site near the Ho-Am Art Museum in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. According to industry sources, groups affiliated with Samsung, such as Shinsegae, CJ, and Hansol, plan to visit the site at different times this year, as they have in the past.

At Samsung, key figures such as Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, former Leeum Museum Director Hong Ra-hee, Hotel Shilla President Lee Boo-jin, and Samsung C&T President Lee Seo-hyun are likely to attend. Last year, Lee Jae-yong missed the memorial service due to overlapping schedules with the first trial judgment for the ‘unfair merger and accounting fraud’ case.

CJ Group Chairman Lee Jae-hyun, the eldest grandson of Ho-Am, is also expected to visit the site in the morning. In the afternoon, Cho Dong-gil, Hansol Group Chairman, and executives from Shinsegae Group plan to pay their respects. It is anticipated that the Samsung executive team will not attend the memorial service this year, similar to last year.

Lee Byung-chul founded “Samsung Trading Company” in 1938, starting with the export of fruits and dried fish, which became the foundation of Samsung C&T. He also established CheilJedang in 1953 with a sugar business, which became the predecessor of CJ Group.
