Songpa district to provide 658 units of public housing in the upper part of Jangji Car Depot.

The bus garage in Jangji-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, will be transformed into a complex facility with public housing for newlyweds, a swimming pool, and community facilities. The Seoul Metropolitan Government conditionally approved the ‘Jangji Garage Verticalization Project Housing Construction Plan’ at the 3rd Public Housing Integration Review Committee. The project site is the Songpa Jangji Public Garage located between Geoyeo Station on Subway Line 5 and Jangji Station on Subway Line 8. This will be the first case of public housing being built on top of a garage.

The project plan includes supplying 658 units of public housing across 25 floors (2 underground and 25 above ground). It will also feature a swimming pool, community facilities, and a public bus garage. The existing public garage located on the site will be modernized to block noise, dust, emissions, and light pollution caused by buses, improving the urban environment. The public housing apartment complex will introduce features such as private yards in front of each apartment, communal terraces, aiming to create a diverse facade different from the typical uniform apartment buildings. The dedicated living spaces in the public housing will be expanded to 31, 41, 51, 56, 59 square meters, 1.5 times larger than existing units, with increased ceiling heights. Additionally, the plan includes the creation of a small library and a swimming pool within the complex.

Construction is set to begin in the second half of next year, with a target completion date of 2028.
