Samsung Electronics’ subsidiary, Rainbow Robotics, sees a surge… Robot theme stocks rise together.

On the 29th at the Dragon City Hotel in Yongsan, Seoul, Jeong-ho Lee, CEO of Rainbow Robotics, gave a presentation on “Robotopia” during Session 2 of the “Strong Korea Forum 2024.” As reported by journalist Lee Sol on May 29, 2024, shares of robot-related companies are simultaneously soaring. Rainbow Robotics, which was incorporated as a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, hit the upper price limit.

As of 10:11 AM on the 2nd, Rainbow Robotics is trading at 211,500 won, up 48,800 won (29.99%) from the previous day. Other robot-related stocks such as Doosan Robotics (19.89%), Clobot (19.87%), RoboStar (18.95%), Robotis (12.47%), Yujin Robot (12.18%), and Roro Robot (12.16%) are also exhibiting significant double-digit increases.

Previously, Samsung Electronics announced on December 31 of last year that it had exercised the call option (stock purchase right) for its shares in Rainbow Robotics. As a result of this call option exercise, Samsung Electronics becomes the largest shareholder with a 35% stake, and Rainbow Robotics becomes a consolidated subsidiary of Samsung Electronics.

In conjunction with this equity acquisition, Samsung Electronics has established the “Future Robot Promotion Team” under Vice Chairman Jong-hee Han, who oversees the Device Experience (DX) division. This organization aims to secure core technological competitiveness in future robots, including humanoids.

Beyond Samsung Electronics, global big tech companies are also actively investing in the robotics field.

Recently, it is anticipated that Nvidia, a leading player in the AI theme on the global stock market, will enter the robotics market. Nvidia is reportedly set to release a small computer for humanoid robots called “Jetson Thor” soon.

Tesla has also announced plans to deploy its humanoid robot “Optimus” in factories by the end of next year and to begin full-scale sales the following year.
