Renault Korea and the Intelligent Vehicle Parts Promotion Institute to Jointly Develop Autonomous Driving and ADAS

Renault Korea (CEO Stéphane Deblaise), the leading company in manufacturing sales in the Busan area, signed a second business agreement for the joint development of autonomous driving and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with the Korea Intelligent Automotive Parts Promotion Institute (KIAPI) on May 27th.

The signing ceremony for the second business agreement was held at the KIAPI in Daegu, with key figures such as Choi Sung-kyu, the Director of Renault Korea Technology, Kim Woo-sang, the Director for Vehicle Performance & Digital Transformation, KIAPI Director Seo Jae-hyung, and Lee Tae-hee, the Director of Testing and Evaluation, in attendance.

This second business agreement focuses on strengthening mutual cooperation in research personnel, equipment, and resources for Renault Korea’s future medium and long-term projects. Through this agreement, Renault Korea and KIAPI aim to improve the efficiency of developing autonomous driving and ADAS technologies, thereby shortening development timelines and reducing costs. They plan to jointly execute over 10 ADAS projects and conduct various vehicle driving performance tests.

Renault Korea has maintained a cooperative relationship with KIAPI since its inception in 2009, and in 2018 they established the first Renault Group vehicle test center in Asia together. In January last year, Renault Korea signed the first business agreement with KIAPI and successfully developed the ADAS system mounted on the Grand Koleos. The Grand Koleos, equipped with the collaborative ADAS system developed by Renault Korea and KIAPI, received the highest rating in the 2024 Korea New Car Assessment Program (KNCAP).

Choi Sung-kyu, Director of Renault Korea Technology, stated at the agreement ceremony, “Through close cooperation with KIAPI, we have efficiently developed excellent ADAS technologies, resulting in achieving the top safety rating for the Grand Koleos. The success of the Grand Koleos has laid the foundation for Renault Korea to carry out its medium to long-term projects successfully.”

Meanwhile, under the Renault Group’s ‘Human First’ philosophy, Renault Korea is focusing on strengthening its capabilities in safety technology development. The Grand Koleos, which secured the highest rating in the 2024 KNCAP, features up to 31 advanced driving and convenience features, enhancing driving safety as a key characteristic.
