Nexon Accepts Consumer Agency’s Decision
The Korea Consumer Agency’s Consumer Dispute Resolution Commission announced on the 14th that it has decided to provide Nexon cash refunds for MapleStory’s probability-based paid items as part of a group dispute resolution case. The Commission has ordered Nexon to provide cash refunds in the form of Nexon Cash, equivalent to 3.1% of the amount spent on Red Cubes and 6.6% on Black Cubes in the game, to around 5,000 MapleStory item purchasers who participated in the group dispute resolution process.
The Commission explained that Nexon had arbitrarily changed the probability of the probability-based items without adequately informing users, and considering that Nexon had been subject to corrective orders and hefty fines from the Fair Trade Commission, it was determined that compensation for users’ economic losses was necessary. If Nexon and the victims both accept the Commission’s resolution, compensation amounting to 1.1 billion won will be provided to 5,674 individuals, excluding 99 individuals whose item usage cannot be confirmed. If compensation is extended to 800,000 MapleStory Cube item users, the total compensation amount is estimated to reach 21.7 billion won. Nexon stated on that day, “We will respect the Consumer Agency’s recommendations and faithfully comply with them.”
