Lee Hwan-joo, CEO of KB Life, has been nominated as the new candidate for President of KB Kookmin Bank.

[Edaily Reporter Yang Hee-dong] Lee Hwan-joo (pictured) has been nominated as the next president of KB Kookmin Bank. This is the first time a CEO from a subsidiary of KB Financial Group has been selected as a candidate for bank president.

On the 27th, KB Financial Group held a CEO Candidate Recommendation Committee (CRPC) meeting and selected CEO Lee Hwan-joo as the candidate for the next president of KB Kookmin Bank. Born in 1964, candidate Lee graduated from Seonrin Commercial High School and Sungkyunkwan University with a degree in business administration. He later completed his studies at the Helsinki School of Economics. Lee has held various positions, including branch manager at the Gangnam Kyobo Intersection Branch and Star Tower Branch of KB Kookmin Bank, head of sales planning, head of the foreign exchange business division, managing director of the personal client group, deputy president of the management planning group, and CFO as KB Financial Group’s vice president. He is praised for having broad experience in the group’s key roles, balancing a sales-driven management philosophy with onsite experience and management capabilities. The term for the next president will be two years, starting January next year.

The CRPC stated that candidate Lee possesses strong leadership capable of simultaneously driving organizational stability and change through initiatives such as enhancing global business momentum, fundamentally innovating internal controls, revitalizing corporate culture, and establishing clear communication processes. He is also known for his customer-centric mindset and bold execution. During his tenure as CEO of KB Life Insurance, he led rapid organizational restructuring and process innovation with a clear direction and vision, resulting in the successful merger of Prudential Life Insurance and KB Life Insurance, as well as demonstrating excellent management capabilities by pioneering new markets such as the nursing care business.
