According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, Vice Minister for Trade, Park Jong-won, visited Washington, D.C. from the 17th for three days.

During this visit, Vice Minister Park met with U.S. government officials at the White House, Department of Commerce, and the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), as well as members of Congress, to explain the close economic relationship between the two countries.

He emphasized that under the Korea-U.S. FTA, tariffs on almost all items between the two countries have already been abolished and requested that South Korea should not be included in reciprocal tariffs and various tariff measures like those on steel and aluminum.

He also reiterated that Korean companies have contributed to the U.S. economy by creating jobs through substantial investments in the U.S.

Vice Minister Park actively reminded the U.S. side that the linkage of the Korea-U.S. supply chain is accelerating through South Korean companies’ investments in the U.S.

He urged the U.S. to continuously foster a favorable investment environment for our companies, taking into account the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and semiconductor law subsidies.

Furthermore, he proposed discussing key issues and ways to expand cooperation between the two countries through high-level consultations.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy also stated that it plans to continue to pursue high-level consultations on U.S. trade measures, while closely communicating with industries to minimize damage to our companies.
