Korea Kolmar has been selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s ‘AI Factory’ project… the only one in the cosmetics industry.

Korea Kolmar has been selected as the only cosmetics company to lead the ‘AI Factory Alliance’ project promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy. The AI Factory project aims to develop a system that surpasses the existing levels of smart factory automation, enabling AI to analyze data in real-time and optimize production processes independently.

Korea Kolmar announced on the 20th that it plans to develop an AI autonomous manufacturing system integrating cosmetic production processes, following its selection for the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy’s AI Factory project. Unlike smart factories, where machines perform tasks automatically based on human-set conditions, AI factories represent autonomous systems where AI analyzes data and makes independent decisions to optimize production processes. The project will run from September this year to December 2029, spanning four years and four months.

Korea Kolmar intends to modularize each process, such as production planning, manufacturing, quality control, and packaging, and enhance process accuracy to over 95%, which is the world’s highest level, using optimized AI models. This effort aims to reduce rework due to defects and maximize production efficiency. Transitioning to an AI factory is expected to enable small-scale production of diversified product lines, allowing quicker response to various demands.

Being the sole cosmetics company selected for this project, Korea Kolmar stated, “We will lead the AI Transformation (AX) of the cosmetics manufacturing industry.” The company also noted, “Some cosmetics processes still rely on manual labor, and we aim to share successful cases to provide domestic companies with references.”

Since 2019, Korea Kolmar has been implementing its smart factory system, achieving a 42% reduction in defect rates compared to previous figures. A Korea Kolmar representative mentioned, “Transitioning to an AI factory, which is an advancement from the smart factory, is expected to reduce rework and establish an advanced manufacturing system optimized for producing a wide range of products in small quantities.”
