‘[Herald Economy=Kim Eun-hee Reporter] Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) announced on the 18th that it signed an agreement with Peru’s state-run aerospace company SEMAN for local joint production of Korean fighter jet KF-21 parts.’,
‘The signing ceremony, linked to the Korea-Peru summit during the 2024 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, was attended by President Yoon Suk-yeol and President Dina Boluarte of Peru, along with delegations from both governments. KAI President Kang Goo-young and SEMAN President (Air Force Major General) Jaime Rodriguez signed the agreement.’,
‘In 2012, Peru acquired 20 basic trainer aircraft KT-1P, out of which SEMAN was responsible for assembling 16 units locally to promote the Peruvian aviation industry.’,
‘With this agreement, if Peru introduces the KF-21 in the future, the scope of cooperation will expand to include joint parts production, expected to enhance aerospace industry exchanges between the two companies.’,
‘Peru is currently positively considering the KF-21 and FA-50 as candidate models for its next-generation fighter project to replace outdated aircraft like the Su-25 and MiG-29.’,
‘KAI proposed a package consisting of the FA-50 multirole fighter and the next-generation KF-21 for the Peruvian Air Force’s fighter acquisition project, aiming to showcase optimal performance and efficiency within a limited budget. Future strengthening of the Peruvian Air Force’s airpower and strategic security cooperation between Korea and Peru is anticipated.’,
‘President Kang Goo-young stated, “If Peru proceeds to introduce both the KF-21 and FA-50, it will become the first export country to complete KAI’s main fixed-wing lineup,” and “We will strengthen promotional activities targeting Latin American countries that urgently need to replace their fighter jets by establishing Peru as a production base.”‘
