Jin-roh Noh, Chairman of the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, Elected as Chair of the ICA Fisheries Committee

Noh Dong-jin, the President of the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, has been elected as the chairman of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) Fisheries Committee, as announced on the 4th. ICA is the world’s largest international non-governmental organization representing cooperatives, established in 1895, with 299 member organizations in 103 countries and about 1 billion cooperative members. The National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives stated that with Noh’s election as the fisheries chairman, leadership to steer the global fisheries cooperatives for the next four years is secured, which is expected to enhance the international status of Korea’s fisheries industry. According to the federation, this marks the fifth consecutive time since 2009 that a domestic cooperative president has been elected as the fisheries committee chairman. In the opening speech of the ICA Fisheries Committee General Assembly held in Manchester, UK, Noh expressed his intention to strengthen mutual cooperation among member countries through the committee to tackle common issues faced by the global fisheries industry, such as the depletion of fisheries resources due to climate change and the destruction of marine ecosystems.
