Inauguration of the Public-Private Council for Activation of the Arctic Route… Supporting Trial Operations

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on the 28th that it would hold the launch ceremony for the “Arctic Route Activation Public-Private Council” at the Busan Port International Exhibition and Convention Center on the 29th.

The launch ceremony will be attended by Acting Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kim Seong-beom, Korea Ocean Business Corporation President Ahn Byung-gil, Busan Port Authority President Song Sang-geun, and more than 50 representatives from 36 organizations, including shipping companies, the logistics industry, and related agencies.

During the ceremony, attendees will gather to discuss and resolve various issues related to the planned trial operation of the Arctic route scheduled for September to October this year and the subsequent process of activating the route.

Moving forward, the public-private council plans to support the expansion of the Arctic route fleet, discover suitable cargo, and provide and share Arctic logistics and vessel operation information to ensure successful trial operations and establish future commercial operations.

Kim Seong-beom, acting as the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, stated, “The public-private council for the activation of the Arctic route will serve as a platform for communication and exchange between the government, related industries, and agencies to prepare for the activation of the Arctic route,” adding, “The government will diligently fulfill its role in helping our companies discover new opportunities in the Arctic route and navigate safely.”
