(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Hong Kyubin = Hyundai Rotem announced on the 8th that the first batch of trams for the Edmonton tram project in Canada has arrived in the region.
The trams, which are part of a project Hyundai Rotem secured in 2021 for 218.8 billion KRW, will be delivered after undergoing approximately 2,000 km of trial runs.
Hyundai Rotem plans to deliver all vehicles sequentially by 2027.
This tram is equipped with an indoor temperature maintenance system considering the local climate that can drop to minus 40 degrees Celsius, and materials that can withstand low-temperature shocks have been used.
Hyundai Rotem commented, “We have successfully entered the North American tram market for the first time,” and added, “We will do our utmost to ensure a safe and convenient mode of transportation for the citizens of Edmonton, Canada.”
