Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, and other brands voluntarily recall 189,797 vehicles across 33 models.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 24th that a manufacturing defect was found in 189,797 units across 33 different models that were either produced by or imported and sold by Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz Korea, BMW Korea, and Ford Sales Service Korea, leading to a voluntary recall.

Hyundai’s Grand Starex and three other models, totaling 117,569 units, are being recalled starting on the 25th due to a potential fire risk caused by insufficient durability of the electronic control hydraulic unit (HECU).

Related to the Genesis G70 and three other models, totaling 58,105 units, these vehicles are facing a recall starting on the 31st due to insufficient durability of the pressure control components within the high-pressure fuel pump, which could cause the vehicle to stop while driving.

Regarding Mercedes-Benz Korea, 5,706 units of the Mercedes-AMG GT 43 4MATIC+ and four other models were flagged for a potential fire risk due to a design defect in the transmission wiring connectors. Additionally, 4,748 units of five models including the GLE 300d 4MATIC failed to meet safety standards due to discrepancies between the communicated vehicle width and actual width. The recall for these 10 Mercedes models has been underway since the 23rd.

BMW Korea is recalling 2,450 units of 14 models, including the 530i xDRIVE, after a lack of durability in the universal joint within the steering column, which transmits rotational force, was found. This recall started on the 22nd.

Ford’s recall of 1,219 Lincoln Nautilus vehicles began on the 18th due to a software error in the vehicle door control, resulting in the failure of the anti-pinching function for the side windows under certain conditions.

Vehicle owners can check if their vehicle is subject to a recall and obtain details of the defect by entering their vehicle number and chassis number on the Automobile Recall Center’s website (car.go.kr) or by calling 080-357-2500.
