Han Su-won, CEO of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, “We will soon settle the nuclear power plant intellectual property dispute with Westinghouse.”

“On the 28th, Hwang Ju-ho, the CEO of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, attended a breakfast lecture at the National Assembly and apologized for the strange articles that appeared in the newspapers, saying, ‘I apologize for not finishing the Czech project perfectly.’ He also mentioned that the legal dispute with Westinghouse over the Czech nuclear power plant order will be resolved soon. The Mugunghwa Forum is a group primarily composed of ruling party members established to secure potential nuclear deterrence capabilities and formulate defense policies.”

“Hwang addressed a question from Im Jong-deok, a member of the main opposition party, about the core issues of the dispute with Westinghouse and how it will be resolved. He explained that Westinghouse requires permission to export their technology, while Korea has export rights under an agreement signed in 1997. He expressed his belief that it would be better to reach a mutual agreement to end the legal dispute smoothly. Hwang emphasized the importance of wisely navigating future challenges and finding ways to coexist harmoniously, even after winning battles against major powers. When asked about the possibility of the project failing, he replied optimistically.”

“Meanwhile, Westinghouse has filed a lawsuit in its home country against Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, seeking to block the export of the latest Korean-designed nuclear reactor, the APR1400, to the Czech Republic, claiming that it is based on their technology.”
