Hacking Incident Occurs at Lotte Card… Financial Authorities “Assessing the Situation”

(Seoul=News1) Reporters Ji-yoon Jeong and Do-yeop Kim = It has been confirmed that Lotte Card has fallen victim to a hacking attack.

According to the financial sector on the 1st, Lotte Card reported the occurrence of a hacking attempt to the Financial Supervisory Service that day.

Lotte Card is currently verifying whether customers’ personal information has been leaked. Under Article 34 of the Personal Information Protection Act, a personal information handler must notify the data subject without delay if a personal information leak is confirmed.

A Lotte Card spokesperson said, “It doesn’t seem to be the work of dark web hacker groups like in recent cases with SGI Seoul Guarantee or Welcome Financial Group,” but added, “an internal investigation is ongoing.”

Financial authorities are reportedly in the process of verifying the facts. The Financial Supervisory Service has been briefed on the hacking incident.

A representative from the Financial Supervisory Service said, “We are currently in the process of confirming the detailed situation.”
