– Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced that the fuel adjustment charge for the fourth quarter of this year will be maintained at 5 won per kilowatt-hour.
– This marks the sixth consecutive quarter of freeze since the third quarter of last year.
– However, considering the financial crisis of KEPCO, the government is still considering raising electricity rates, leaving open the possibility of an increase within this year.
– From 2021 to last year, KEPCO has been incurring accumulated deficits in the tens of trillions of won by selling electricity below cost during periods of sharp increase in energy prices.
– The fuel adjustment charge is one of the criteria for electricity billing, announced before each quarter to reflect the trend of short-term energy prices over the past three months.
