On November 12, employees of Samsung Electronics participated in a mural painting volunteer activity at Guun Elementary School in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon. The image accompanying this report depicts the employees actively engaging in their community service. A statement from the mother of a young girl, Sohee (alias), at the ‘2024 Sharing Day’ event held in Suwon Digital City’s Digital Hall on November 14, highlights the positive impact of Samsung employees’ contributions, which have not only provided financial support but have also gifted “time of hope” to those in need. Sohee, who has cerebral palsy and intellectual disabilities, received treatment funds through Samsung’s ‘Sharing Kiosk,’ a system where employees can donate 1,000 KRW each time they tag their employee ID cards, effectively providing assistance to children with featured stories across various Samsung facilities.
Between November 1 and 14, Samsung conducted a ‘Sharing Week’ to promote everyday acts of giving. During this period, 110,000 employees from 23 affiliates participated in face-to-face volunteering, Sharing Kiosk donations, and a blood donation campaign. For the first time, international Samsung Electronics branches also joined the effort, broadening the scope of ‘Sharing Week.’
The Sharing Kiosk initiative garnered a total of 350 million KRW over two weeks, surpassing their original target of donating 20 million KRW to each of 20 children. Introduced in 2015 at Samsung’s Gumi site through employee suggestions, the kiosks have since expanded to 23 affiliates worldwide, with 128 kiosks set up domestically and internationally, including in the USA, China, India, Thailand, and Vietnam this year.
During the two-week period, Samsung employees engaged in various community service activities, including volunteering at local welfare facilities and children’s centers, participating in environmental improvement projects, and engaging in donation and awareness campaigns. Additionally, company executives participated in a diverse range of volunteer activities. Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics, gave a lecture and mentoring session at the Samsung Youth Software Academy (SSAFY) Seoul Campus. Furthermore, Hong Won-hak, President of Samsung Life Insurance, and Park Jong-mun, President of Samsung Securities, took part in community service activities, contributing through volunteer work at the National Cemetery and Seoul Central Senior Citizens Center, respectively.
Continuing their annual blood donation campaign since 1996, Samsung operated 110 blood donation buses across 42 sites nationwide during Sharing Week, with over 4,000 employees participating. The collected blood donation certificates, amounting to 5,000, were donated to the Korean Red Cross and distributed to five major pediatric cancer hospitals nationwide.
From November 1 to 29, Samsung employees are also engaging in a ‘Donation Pledge,’ allowing them to select a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program they wish to support next year and set their desired donation amount through the internal intranet. Starting this year, employees who pledge to donate over 300,000 KRW monthly for five consecutive years are inducted into the ‘Honors Club,’ receiving commemorative plaques and invitations to company-hosted cultural and artistic performances.
