Doosan Enerbility Receives More Good News from Saudi Arabia: Secures 8.9 Trillion Won Contract for Gas-Fired Combined Cycle Power Plant

Doosan Enerbility has signed a construction contract with Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) for the PP12 gas-fired combined cycle power plant, estimated at 890 billion won. The PP12 power plant, expected to be completed by 2028, will have a capacity of 1800 MW and is located approximately 150 kilometers northwest of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Doosan Enerbility, in consortium with the construction specialist Sepeco3, will handle the design, supply of major equipment, and comprehensive testing.

This project is part of Saudi Electricity Company’s efforts to swiftly meet the rapidly increasing electricity demand in Saudi Arabia. It is anticipated that the country will expand power plant capacity by 6 GW annually over the next five years. Doosan Enerbility expects the PP12 plant to contribute to the stabilization of Saudi Arabia’s power grid upon its completion. Lee Hyun-ho, head of Doosan Enerbility’s plant EPC BG, stated that the company has secured four power plant construction contracts in the Middle East this year alone, including the Qatar peaking unit, Saudi Arabia’s Ruma1, Nairiyah1, and PP12, and aims to further expand its market presence.

Including this project, Doosan Enerbility has secured approximately 6.7 trillion won worth of projects in Saudi Arabia over the past five years. On March 12, they signed a 2.2 trillion won contract with a consortium that includes Korea Electric Power Corporation for the construction of the Ruma1 and Nairiyah1 gas-fired combined cycle power plants. Prior to this, they also secured contracts for the construction of the Jafurah cogeneration plant, Tuwaiq casting and forging plant, and Yanbu4 and Shoaiba3 seawater desalination plants.
