At the center of the article, it was reported that there was an incident involving the Shilla Hotel in Jangchung-dong, Seoul, where initially, China had requested a full reservation of the hotel’s banquet hall and rooms for a national event, only to suddenly cancel the reservation. In response, Representative Park Soo-young of the People Power Party sarcastically commented that “President Lee Jae-myung’s hotel economics has become a reality.”
Park, a member of the National Assembly’s Planning and Finance Committee, noted on his Facebook page on the 29th that, according to Lee Jae-myung’s hotel economics, the cancellation of weddings and room reservations by China supposedly brought ‘vitality’ and would be seen as a positive thing by Lee.
Previously, Shilla Hotel had asked customers to change their wedding dates, citing national events during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit scheduled for October 31st. As public opinion soured, the hotel offered to cover all costs for the rescheduled weddings.
However, when China abruptly notified the hotel of their reservation cancellation for that period, Shilla Hotel informed the initially booked customers that they could proceed with their events as originally scheduled.
In reaction, Representative Park criticized that no actual reservation or payment from China was made and suggested that Hotel Shilla’s brand image declined and that they might have to pay certain penalties. He further criticized what he termed “communist dictatorship hotel economics,” claiming it only serves to ignite annoyance and anger among South Koreans, highlighting what he sees as the true face of the Lee Jae-myung administration.
