Ulsan Urban Railway Line 2 Project Selected for Pre-Feasibility Study

The city of Ulsan is making significant progress in establishing a cross-shaped urban railway network. Announced on the 3rd, Ulsan’s urban railway Line 2 project has been selected as a preliminary feasibility study project by the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s 10th Fiscal Project Evaluation Committee. This project aims to connect the northern and southern parts of Ulsan with a hydrogen electric tram line covering a 13.55 km section from Buk-ulsan Station in the Buk-gu to Yaum Intersection in the Nam-gu, with an investment of 440 billion KRW and a target opening in 2032.

Earlier this year, the project was not approved due to a perceived lack of urgency during the fiscal project evaluation by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. However, after re-evaluation, it passed the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport’s investment review in August and was finally selected for the preliminary feasibility study.

Once the study is approved, basic planning and groundwork will begin, with construction starting in 2029. Upon completion, Line 2 will connect with the existing Line 1, creating a cross-shaped hydrogen tram network linking Ulsan’s city center in all directions. Construction of the 10.9 km Line 1 is set to begin at the end of this year and is scheduled to open in 2029.

An Hyodae, the Deputy Mayor of Ulsan for Economic Affairs, mentioned that once Line 2 opens, the main public transportation routes will be served by rail and feeder routes by buses, making it more convenient for the public to use transit options.
