“Police have apprehended three individuals who attempted to kidnap children near an elementary school in Hongje-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.”
“According to reports from Yonhap News and others on the 4th, the Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul has urgently arrested three individuals on charges of attempted abduction and is seeking arrest warrants for two of them. The elementary school had previously issued a notice on the 1st stating that there was an attempted abduction over the weekend when two men in a white vehicle approached children near the school and offered to take them home. However, the police, who received a report on August 30, had analyzed nearby CCTV footage but had not found any evidence indicative of an attempted abduction.”
“On the 2nd, an additional report of a similar incident prompted the police to initiate an investigation, during which they tracked the suspect vehicle and confirmed that an attempted kidnapping had indeed occurred, including the incident reported late last month. A police representative explained, ‘At the time of the first report, there was a discrepancy in the color and type of the vehicle reported by the victim’s mother and the actual vehicle involved, which made it difficult to ascertain the facts accurately.’ The court is expected to hold a pretrial detention hearing on the 5th.”
