Prosecutor General Sim Woo-jung stated that the case related to President Yoon Seok-yeol’s declaration of martial law would be investigated according to the law and principles. On the 5th, Sim met with reporters in front of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, during his way home from work. He mentioned that the related complaint has been assigned to the first public investigation department of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office and that former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun has been put on a travel ban.
He further explained, “Several complaints involving charges of rebellion and abuse of power have been filed,” and reiterated that the investigation would proceed based on law and principles.
When asked if a direct investigation was possible, Sim responded, “I believe we can investigate according to the laws and procedures.”
Additionally, Sim expressed regret over the unilateral passing of the impeachment bills for three prosecutors, including Seoul District Prosecutor Lee Chang-su, in the National Assembly’s plenary session. He emphasized that disputes over case handling should be resolved within the criminal justice system and assured: “As the person ultimately responsible for investigations, I will fulfill my role and ensure that the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office effectively responds to public welfare crimes without any gaps.”
