The man, in his 40s, who damaged the life-sized cutouts (photos the size of a person) set up by the family of Lee Yoon-hee to find her, was handed over to the prosecution.
On the 18th, the Jeonju Wansan Police Station announced that they forwarded Mr. A (in his 40s) to the prosecution on charges of property damage. According to the police, Mr. A is accused of damaging two of Lee Yoon-hee’s cutouts placed on a road in Hyoja-dong, Wansan District, Jeonju City, on May 8th at about 8:20 p.m.
It is reported that he cut the strings securing the cutouts with a pre-prepared cutter knife, then destroyed and hid the cutouts.
A police investigation revealed that Mr. A admitted to the crime.
Lee Yoon-hee, who was a student in the veterinary department of Jeonbuk National University, went missing on the night of June 5, 2006, after attending an end-of-term gathering with about 40 professors and classmates at a restaurant in Jeonju and returning to her one-room apartment located 1.5 km away at around 2:30 a.m. the next day.
Her parents have made every effort for nearly 20 years to find their daughter but to no avail as her whereabouts remain unknown. In May, the parents installed six cutouts in various locations around Jeonju City.
Some of these cutouts were installed near Mr. A’s residence, known to be from the same department as Lee Yoon-hee.
Previously, Mr. A had filed a police report against Lee Yoon-hee’s family under the Stalking Punishment Act. A police official said, “We recently concluded the investigation into Mr. A and forwarded the case to the prosecution.”
