A group of medical school professors have countered the government’s explanation, warning that emergency room operations could be disrupted as patients flock during Chuseok.
The government stated that the current emergency medical system is at a sustainable level and will announce measures this afternoon.

[Report]
Amid a mass resignation of resident doctors for six months, the medical system is facing crisis, particularly in emergency rooms.
Following the suspension of nighttime treatment at Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital’s emergency room, difficulties in operating emergency rooms at major hospitals in the Seoul metropolitan area like Yonsei Severance Hospital have begun.
The government’s position is that although there are difficulties in operating emergency rooms, maintaining treatment is still possible.
They have also announced measures, declaring approximately two weeks surrounding Chuseok as a “emergency emergency response week,” operating duty clinics at over 4,000 locations or more.
However, the assessment from the doctors’ group was different.
The Korean Society of Medical Professors warned that more university hospitals could restrict emergency treatment or close emergency rooms as the number of patients increases over the Chuseok holiday.
Based on yesterday’s data, among emergency rooms in 57 university hospitals nationwide, 14 have less than half, and 24 cannot perform infantile intussusception surgeries, providing detailed results of the assessment.
They emphasized the need for the political sphere to take the current medical crisis situation seriously, asserting that it is a crucial point for the President to make a decision.
In response to these warnings, the government is set to hold a briefing this afternoon to explain the measures once again.
It is expected that they will present an overall situation regarding emergency rooms, such as the number of patients and operational status, and provide measures to address the identified issues.
