The ‘2025 Daegu Garden Expo’ Opens on the 24th at the Kumho River Islet.

The “2025 Daegu Garden Expo,” showcasing a healing space in the urban environment, will be held from the 24th to the 28th at the Hamjeongdo area of the Geumho River in Daegu. According to Daegu City on the 21st, this expo, themed “Finding the Future of K-Garden in Daegu!”, will be a green festival involving students, citizens, companies, and organizations.

The expo will feature 118 display gardens, including 20 student gardens, 20 citizen gardens, 7 corporate gardens, 8 district/county gardens, 21 citizen gardener gardens, and 40 family gardens. The gardens have been completed between the 10th and 19th of this month, with sizes ranging from a minimum of 15㎡ to a maximum of 200㎡. Kim Ok-jae, head of Daegu City’s Forest and Greenery Management Division, mentioned efforts to discover future garden designers by expanding the contest to middle and high school students this year.

At the opening ceremony, there will be a “gardening fashion show” combining model performances with garden-themed costumes. During the event, various experiential programs such as garden explanations with citizen gardeners, pot making, guerrilla garden creation, garden tours, and a garden exploration team will be offered.

The industrial exhibition will operate 61 booths featuring garden plants, supplies and materials, experiences, a food zone, and public booths. It will exhibit and sell the latest horticultural varieties and garden plants/materials, and present daily gardening items and new technologies in the garden industry.

To ensure event safety, AI, drones, and CCTV will be utilized for real-time analysis of visitor routes and density, while vulnerable areas will be continuously monitored. To reduce traffic congestion, free shuttle buses will operate, and a temporary bridge will be installed between the Nogok Sports Park parking lot and Hamjeongdo to improve accessibility to the venue.

Hamjeongdo, an island between Seobyeon Bridge and Paldal Bridge in Buk-gu, has an area of about 220,000㎡, a length of 1.1 km, and a width of 260 m. It resembles a large egg from a distance. Daegu City has been developing Hamjeongdo into an “eco-friendly gateway island” since 2011, nurturing it as an ecological park in the urban environment. Each spring, rapeseed flowers and barley bloom, while in autumn, cosmos and various wildflowers attract visitors annually.

Jung Gi Kim, acting mayor of Daegu (Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs), expressed his hope that “the event becomes a meaningful festival where citizens can enjoy Daegu’s garden culture and experience healing in urban spaces,” anticipating that this expo will lay the foundation for the Hamjeongdo Local Garden and the leap toward a national garden.
