Singer Lee Seung-hwan Accused of Forgery? What Happened

Singer Lee Seung-hwan, who has been in conflict with the staunch supporters of President Yoon Seok-yeol, expressed his welcome to being accused of forgery of official documents. On the 3rd, Lee posted a photo of the complaint document on social media with the caption “I gladly welcome the accusation.” According to the complaint, the plaintiff, represented by individuals from the “Maryland Forensic Laboratory,” claimed that Lee forged or altered official documents related to his travel records to the United States around February 21. Lee Seung-hwan, after posting photos from his trip to attend his nephew’s wedding in the U.S., stated he was not denied entry by the CIA, countering the efforts of some Yoon supporters who reported him to the U.S. agency without effect.

However, allegations that his photos were doctored spread recklessly. A YouTuber, identified as part of the “Maryland Forensic Laboratory,” challenged Lee with a video titled, “Seung-hwan, want to bet with me?” In response, Lee referred to this YouTuber as “the one who mentioned reporting to the CIA” and accepted the challenge, asserting it’s time to reveal the truth behind these false claims. He proposed that if he won, the YouTuber would quit making videos on the platform, leaving the terms of the bet open to the YouTuber.

Previously, Lee had expressed support for the impeachment of President Yoon after the December 3 Martial Law Incident and participated in a pro-impeachment rally in front of the National Assembly in Seoul. Some aggrieved supporters of President Yoon reportedly escalated their discontent by reporting Lee and other entertainment figures expressing similar sentiments to the CIA. However, contrary to some YouTubers’ claims, it has been clarified that CIA reports are unrelated to U.S. entry and exit matters. Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul previously responded in a legislative session that participating in impeachment rallies would not affect the issuance of an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization).
