Seoul selects ‘Green Aurora’, extracted from summer street trees, as the ‘Seoul Color of 2025’

Seoul City has selected “Green Aurora” as the color representing Seoul for 2025. On the 28th, the city announced that “Green Aurora” would be its official color for 2025. This color was derived from the green hues observed in the trees lining the city’s streets during the dim evening lights of a long and lush summer. The city explained that this color conveys a message of comfort and encouragement to citizens in their daily lives.

Last November, Seoul City declared that it would announce a representative color for the city each year, and for 2024, it had selected “Sky Coral.” Throughout the year, this color was used in various city-hosted events and marketing activities.

The selection process for this year’s Seoul color involved a professional organization that researched keywords from cultural, environmental, technological, and lifestyle fields using AI and big data. The final color was inspired by the greenest leaves of the street trees in Seoul’s top five searched and mentioned foliage routes in August. Experts from various fields, including color, visual design, fashion, and lighting, collaborated to develop this color.

On the evening of the 28th, the “2025 Seoul Color” will be debuted at major landmarks across Seoul, including Namsan Seoul Tower, Lotte World Tower, World Cup Bridge, Gwanghwamun Square (Haechi Plaza), City Hall, and Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). It will be in use until November of the following year.

The city plans to develop merchandise utilizing “Green Aurora” through collaborations with existing and new corporate partners in various fields.

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon stated that the selection of Seoul’s color is not merely for beautifying the city, but to enhance the value of urban design, improve the quality of life for citizens, and strengthen the city’s competitiveness. He expressed that Seoul’s color would become an icon showcasing the city’s future as it harmonizes nature, people, and space.
