Seoul Asan Medical Center Ranked No. 1 in Korea and 25th in the World by U.S. Newsweek Evaluation

The Mayo Clinic in the United States ranks first, while Seoul Asan Medical Center maintains its competitive edge.

According to the world’s best hospitals evaluation conducted by the American weekly news magazine, Newsweek, Seoul Asan Medical Center ranked 25th, the highest among domestic hospitals. Since the evaluation started in 2019, Seoul Asan Medical Center has maintained the top position in the country every year.

On the 27th, Newsweek, together with the global research firm Statista, announced the “2025 World’s Best Hospitals” rankings based on recommendations from medical experts in 30 countries and patient satisfaction among others. According to this evaluation, Seoul Asan Medical Center is the only domestic hospital to make the top 20 in the assessment, selecting the top 250 out of about 2,400 hospitals worldwide.

The world’s number one hospital was the Mayo Clinic in the United States, followed by the Cleveland Clinic in the United States, Toronto General Hospital in Canada, Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States, and Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden for positions 2 to 5.

The evaluation criteria include the results of an online survey conducted on 30 countries’ doctors, health experts, and hospital managers (40%), medical performance indicators (37.5%), patient satisfaction surveys (17.5%), and the implementation of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) (5%).

For domestic hospitals, assessments from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service on appropriateness in areas like Intensive Care Units, acute diseases, cancer, and pharmaceuticals, as well as patient experience surveys on doctors, nurses, and hospital environments, were reflected in the evaluation.

Park Seung-il, President of Seoul Asan Medical Center, stated, “We have established ourselves as a global final hospital that can be trusted not only domestically but also by patients worldwide, by leading the treatment of severe diseases such as cancer, organ transplants, and heart conditions. We will continue to enhance our medical system centered on specialists to ensure patient safety and provide high-quality treatment.”

In the second half of last year, Seoul Asan Medical Center was also ranked third globally in endocrinology, fourth in gastroenterology, and fifth in both cancer and urology, in Newsweek’s “2025 World’s Best Specialized Hospitals”. Domestically, it was selected as number one in endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, cardiology, and cardiac surgery.
