Quarantine authorities: “Highly pathogenic AI detected at a poultry farm in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do… Strengthening quarantine control measures.”

The Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (AI) Central Accident Response Headquarters announced today (25th) that a case of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza has occurred at a poultry farm in Yeongam County, Jeollanam-do.

The Central Accident Response Headquarters received a report from the farm owner yesterday (24th) and conducted a detailed inspection, confirming today the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza.

Due to the confirmation of highly pathogenic AI at a small-scale farm, the headquarters plans to investigate the prevention and control measures at small-scale farms nationwide that are not registered in the National Animal Disease Control Integrated Information System (KAHIS) until the 6th of next month.

The government also plans to proceed with the purchase of birds from small poultry farms in risky areas, such as egg-laying complex zones and migratory bird habitats.

Additionally, the headquarters will conduct phone monitoring of farms with fewer than 100 birds until the 20th of next month and check the implementation of ‘disinfection days’ at 139 traditional markets on a weekly basis.

Including this case, the number of highly pathogenic AI cases at poultry farms since October this year has risen to four.
