‘The prosecution has decided to hold a personal information disclosure committee (the committee) regarding Ms. Kim, a woman in her 20s who is a suspect in the “Gangbuk Motel Serial Murder Case.”‘

‘The Seoul Northern District Prosecutor’s Office announced this on the 27th, though the schedule for the committee meeting has not been disclosed.’

‘Under the Serious Crimes Personal Information Disclosure Act, prosecutors can refer suspects of serious crimes to the committee to decide whether to disclose their personal information. Ms. Kim is currently under arrest and investigation on charges of murder and violation of the Narcotics Control Act, accused of causing the deaths of two men with drug-laced drinks.’

‘Previously, the police decided not to hold a personal information disclosure committee meeting, deeming the case did not meet the criteria such as method severity.’

‘However, as Ms. Kim’s social media addresses quickly spread online and the victims’ families urged for her personal information to be disclosed, the prosecution decided to convene the committee.’

‘The committee comprises 7 to 10 members, primarily consisting of external experts such as professors, lawyers, and members of civic groups. If the committee decides to disclose Ms. Kim’s personal information, her photo, name, and age may be released.’
