Over a span of two days, Myung Tae-kyun, a central figure in the alleged interference with public nominations involving Kim Kun-hee, underwent 20 hours of intensive questioning by the prosecution. Myung has completely denied allegations of violating political fund laws and exchanging favors for nominations. He expressed displeasure, stating that “the media has built a mountain of lies.”
The prosecution is considering whether to issue arrest warrants for relevant individuals, including former lawmaker Kim Young-sun and Myung. Myung, having been questioned by a special investigation team at the Changwon District Prosecutors’ Office, claims that recommending good people to the president should not pose any legal issues. He also disputed any implication in relocating the presidential office to Yongsan, clarifying that he merely suggested opinions because of negative remarks about the Blue House site.
Despite Myung’s denial of receiving any monetary compensation for nominations and claiming that personal loans were misconstrued as compensation, the allegations persist. The prosecution is now reviewing the entire case thoroughly, including potential violations of political fund laws, and will make decisions regarding the detention of individuals involved.
