It is reported that former acting president of the Constitutional Court, Moon Hyung-bae, is contemplating taking a position at the Seoul City University’s law school. On the 14th, Moon stated, “I received notice about an appointment application from the city university and am considering whether to follow through with the procedure,” adding that “the application process has not yet begun.” He also mentioned, “I’m not considering any other university,” indicating a strong inclination toward lecturing at Seoul City University. Additionally, Seoul City University is internally discussing appointing Moon as a visiting professor at their law school. If the process proceeds successfully, Moon is set to teach a constitutional law course starting in the upcoming semester.
Seoul City University’s law school is the only public law school in the country, with an annual enrollment of 50 students. The current dean is Professor Kim Hee-kyun, and the faculty includes experts like Professor Lee Sang-kyung (Constitutional Law), Professor Chung Byung-ho (Civil Law), and Professor Cha Sung-an (Criminal Law). Professor Lee Sang-kyung has served as president of the Korean Constitutional Law Association and chairman of the Law School Association, Professor Chung Byung-ho is the former president of the Korean Civil Law Association, and Professor Cha Sung-an is a former judge.
Moon Hyung-bae completed his six-year term as a Constitutional Court judge and retired on the 18th of last month. He was known for being the presiding judge in the impeachment trial of former President Yoon Seok-yeol, where he declared the removal from office. Seoul City University previously appointed Park Han-cheol, who participated in the impeachment trial of former President Park Geun-hye, as a visiting professor in 2019.
