LH, shelter provision to support at-risk pregnant women in childbirth and parenting

Support for Vulnerable Single Mothers and Teenage Mothers, Including At-Risk Pregnant Women: [Edaily, Reporter Kim Areum] The Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 6th that it will provide “shelters for at-risk pregnant women” in Dongdaemun and Seongbuk districts of Seoul to assist with safe childbirth and childcare.

“At-risk pregnant women” refers to those facing difficulties with childbirth and childcare due to unexpected pregnancies or economic, psychological, or physical issues. The “shelters for at-risk pregnant women” aim to help these women prepare for the future without abandoning childbirth in response to social issues such as infant abandonment and unreported births. These shelters, operated as private facilities to protect the rights of mothers and children, are scheduled to open in December.

LH signed a business agreement with the city of Seoul on the 5th to provide these shelters. LH will designate 10 purchased rental housing units, with good access to facilities like convenience stores and hospitals, as “shelters for at-risk pregnant women” and provide them at about 30% of the market price. The deposit will range from 3 to 6 million KRW, with monthly rent between 310,000 and 410,000 KRW. The city of Seoul will select the at-risk pregnant women eligible for protection and provide tailored services, including childbirth, childcare, and support for living and psychological well-being.

Park Hyun-geun, head of LH’s Seoul Regional Headquarters, stated, “We will continue to support broad housing welfare so that vulnerable groups such as at-risk pregnant women can recover healthy lives under social protection.”
