The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) is preparing a response after a court found procedural flaws in the sanctions decision against MBC’s report. The KCC announced that it would analyze the court’s decision and respond appropriately after receiving the judgment document.
Previously, the Seoul Administrative Court ruled that the KCC’s decision to issue sanctions against MBC’s report, based on a decision by the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC), was illegal because it did not meet the quorum requirement, as it was made by a two-member KCC panel.
Since last year, the KCC has been making various decisions under a “two-member system,” which includes former Chairman Lee Dong-gwan, former Chairman Kim Hong-il, Vice Chairman Lee Sang-in, suspended Chairman Lee Jin-sook, and Vice Chairman Kim Tae-kyu, due to an impeachment trial.
In response, it is reported that the KCC is carefully considering filing an appeal. The KCSC, which decided to impose a fine of 15 million won on MBC’s report, emphasized that the ruling clarified there was no issue with its meeting procedures.
