The police, fire department, and National Forensic Service are conducting a second joint examination to uncover the cause of the fire.
The examination is focused on the 5th-floor server room where the fire occurred.
Prior to this, the police collected remnants such as lithium-ion battery components from the first examination and have requested analysis from the National Forensic Service.
[Kang Jae-seok / Daejeon Police Agency Scientific Investigation Section Chief: We swiftly secured evidence through the first site examination and have requested analysis. The second examination will be a comprehensive joint inspection of the facility to determine the exact cause of the fire.]
The burned batteries have been moved outside the building and stored in water tanks due to the possibility of reignition.
Once the battery, suspected as the starting point of the explosion, is stabilized, it will be sent to the National Forensic Service for detailed analysis.
It has been determined that the fire occurred during the process of relocating batteries from the server area to the basement.
The batteries were found to be a year past their durability period.
The police have formed a special investigation team of 20 members, led by the Daejeon Police Agency’s criminal division head.
The investigation team is reviewing internal server room CCTV footage and safety management documents to check for any issues in battery management and relocation processes.
