The special prosecutor Min Joong-ki’s team, which is investigating various allegations against Kim Gun-hee, summoned Jung Mo, the former chief secretary to the leader of the Unification Church, in connection with the lobbying allegations involving Jeon Sung-bae.

Jung appeared in front of the Kwanghwamun KT Building where the special prosecutor’s office is located at around 9:38 AM on the 8th. With a stern expression and head bowed, he entered the building without responding to questions such as “how much money was given to Congressman Kwon Sung-dong,” “why it was given,” and “if it was done under the instruction of the church leader.”

Jung is considered the ‘number two’ within the Unification Church and currently serves as the deputy director of Cheon Moo Won, the church’s administrative organization.

Yoon Mo, the global headquarters director of the Unification Church, is under arrest and investigation by the special prosecutor for allegedly presenting Chanel bags, diamond necklaces, and other gifts to Kim Gun-hee through Jeon Sung-bae, along with lobbying the church’s interests. He is also suspected of attempting to recruit church members as party members to support Congressman Kwon Sung-dong in the People Power Party’s leadership election in March 2023.

Yoon has reportedly testified to the special prosecutor that he delivered the gifts to Jeon with the approval of the church leader and Jung. The special prosecutor is exploring the possibility that not only the lobbying of Kim Gun-hee but also the illegal political funding allegations involving Congressman Kwon Sung-dong were carried out at an organizational level within the church.
