Hampyeong County: “Prevent Dementia with Free Early Screening”

Free Screening for Residents Aged 60 and Above

Hampyeong County in Jeonnam announced on the 23rd that they will carry out free early dementia screenings throughout the year for the early detection and timely treatment of dementia.

Dementia can be more effectively managed when detected early, delaying its progression and improving the quality of life, making regular screenings essential. Therefore, Hampyeong County is providing free screening tests for local residents aged 60 and above who have not been diagnosed with dementia at health centers.

To enhance accessibility, the county is collaborating with health posts and clinics to operate dementia screenings. Additionally, for seniors who have difficulty visiting the facilities, mobile visits for screenings are also conducted. Residents who are 75 years or older, or those turning 75 this year, are designated as a key management group to encourage active participation in screenings.

Moreover, if dementia is suspected, further diagnostic and differential tests are conducted for a final diagnosis. If dementia is confirmed, financial support is provided up to 150,000 KRW for diagnostic tests and up to 80,000 KRW for differential tests.

Additionally, those confirmed with dementia and registered at the health center’s dementia care center can receive various dementia management services such as support for dementia treatment and care expenses, provision of care items, dementia patient rest programs, family classes and healing programs, and missing person prevention services.

Hampyeong County Mayor Sang-ik Lee stated, “Early detection and treatment are crucial for dementia,” and encouraged residents to actively participate in early dementia screenings to prepare for a healthy old age, affirming the county’s commitment to dementia prevention and management.
