Ports at Seokbyeong-ri, Gyeongju Gampo, and Jukjin in Uljin County have been selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ “Fisheries Revitalization Project” this year, securing a total project budget of 45 billion KRW. According to North Gyeongsang Province on the 27th, the project aims to address the issue of disappearing fishing villages by improving living conditions such as healthcare, welfare, and culture, and generating new jobs to revitalize these communities.

Through this project, Seokbyeong-ri Port in Pohang will see the development of onshore gardens, marine forests, and diving points, along with the construction of a fishing station and rental housing, village and environmental improvements, and the renovation of port facilities linked with the “Miracle East End Garden Village Project.” In Pohang, projects have been implemented since 2023 at several ports with a total investment of 40 billion KRW, continuing in 2024 with activities at Gangsa-ri Port in Homigot.

In Gampo Port, Gyeongju, key developments include the establishment of the “Hip Gampo Center” for supporting youth entrepreneurship, with additional facilities like Moonlight Plaza, Songdaemal Diver Site, Yongoreum Skywalk, and modern historical art paths. Private investments will also be made to remodel resorts to attract more tourists seeking extended stays.

In Jukjin Port, Uljin County, measures will be taken to reinforce breakwaters against high waves to ensure the safety of residents, and repair aged piers and docking facilities to enhance the fishing industry infrastructure.

Lee Young-seok, head of the Hwandonghae Regional Headquarters in North Gyeongsang, expressed that these efforts are expected to improve the living and economic conditions of the underdeveloped fishing villages and significantly contribute to the settlement of new professionals in the coastal areas.
