Gyeonggi Province raises emergency level to ‘Phase 3’ due to heavy rain… Gimpo records 247mm

On the 13th, in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, where a heavy rain warning was issued, firefighters are conducting rescue operations from vehicles submerged in rising water. According to Yonhap News, Gyeonggi Province elevated the disaster and safety measures headquarters emergency level from level 2 to level 3 at 6 p.m. on the 13th.

Currently, heavy rain warnings have been issued in 11 cities and counties including Goyang, while heavy rain advisories are in effect in 20 cities and districts including Suwon. The province raised the emergency level as up to 200mm of rain fell during the day in the northern Gyeonggi region, with forecasts predicting up to an additional 200mm overnight.

This is the second time this year that the emergency level 3 has been declared since the heavy rains in Gapyeong and northern Gyeonggi on the 20th of last month. Between midnight and 7 p.m. on this day, over 200mm of rain fell in areas such as Gimpo (247.5mm), Goyang (Jugyo, 233.0mm), and Yangju (Jangheung-myeon, 216.5mm). The province had initially declared an emergency level 1 at 4:30 a.m., raising it to level 2 by noon.

Meanwhile, this heavy rainfall has resulted in casualties, including one death in Singok-ri, Gimpo. The entire operation of the suburban line from Uijeongbu to Daegok Station has been suspended and will remain so until the 14th. Additionally, three underpasses, including the Singok Underpass in Uijeongbu, and four roads, including Yangju Village Road, are currently closed.
