Gyeonggi Nambu Police apprehended 16 cases during a pre-announced two-hour DUI checkpoint.

Suwon, Yonhap News – Reporter Kwon Jun-woo: The Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency announced on the 19th that they detected 16 cases of violations during a two-hour crackdown on drunk driving conducted from 8 PM to 10 PM on the 18th.

The crackdown took place at 22 locations within the jurisdiction that are prone to drunk driving, such as entertainment districts. A total of 116 personnel, including traffic police, and 77 patrol cars were deployed. The highway patrol was also involved, allowing for checks at highway toll booths.

The operation resulted in the detection of a total of 16 cases, including 6 license cancellations and 10 suspensions.

Around 8:13 PM the previous day, a driver in their 30s, referred to as Mr. A, was caught driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.095% from Yeongtong-gu Office in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, to a road in front of Suwon City Hall in Ingye-dong, Gwonseon-gu.

Similarly, at around 8:49 PM the same day, a driver, Mr. B, also in their 30s, was caught in Danwon-gu, Ansan City, driving approximately 1.1 kilometers with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.073%.

The Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency plans to conduct special crackdowns on drunk driving until the end of January next year, aiming to spread the awareness that drunk drivers can be caught anytime, anywhere, through regular checks and media announcements.

A police official stated, “We will operate a special crackdown period until January 31 to create an atmosphere where drunk driving is eradicated,” and urged the public, “For the safety of families waiting for a safe return home, please refrain from driving if you have had even one drink.”
