(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Yoon Bo-ram = The National Police Agency announced on the 10th that it will start a ‘mobile firearm possession permit verification service’ in collaboration with Naver this month.
This service allows users to easily confirm the permit issued by the police to possess firearms, swords, tear gas guns, and electronic shock devices through the mobile Naver license service.
Previously, it was inconvenient to always carry the plastic card-shaped permit issued by the police when carrying firearms, and obtaining a reissue required visiting the police station directly and took a considerable amount of time.
The mobile service targets approximately 500,000 people who have permits for firearms, swords, tear gas guns, electronic shock devices, crossbows, as well as explosive material management and manufacturing responsibility licenses.
To receive a mobile permit and use it, you need to join the police agency’s firearm and explosive safety management system (www.knpgun.go.kr), then go through personal authentication in the Naver app’s license service.
The mobile permit service requires personal authentication each time you verify it, and it is impossible to use it for proxy use or forgery if the permit expires or is canceled, ensuring increased convenience for permit holders and helping to alleviate concerns about loss.
A police official stated, “Enhancing firearm safety management not only benefits the public, but also enhances the convenience for firearm holders, improves operational efficiency, and reduces administrative costs. We will continue to work closely with relevant industries and institutions, actively introducing new technologies to enhance firearm safety management.”
