3,956 Billion Won Invested to Connect Gangseo to Sasang; 8 Bridges to be Built by 2029
The road construction project connecting Gangseo District in Busan to Samnak-dong in Sasang District, crossing the Nakdong River, is set to officially begin construction.
On the 23rd, the city of Busan announced that a groundbreaking ceremony for the Daejeo Bridge construction project would be held at Daejeo Ecological Park in Gangseo District. The event will be attended by Mayor Park Heong-joon, Members of the National Assembly Kim Do-eup and Kim Dae-sik, Gangseo District Mayor Kim Hyeong-chan, Sasang District Mayor Cho Byeong-gil, and around 300 local residents.
The Daejeo Bridge construction project involves building an 8.24 km road connecting Sikman-dong in Gangseo District to the Sasang Industrial Complex in Samnak-dong, Sasang District.
The city plans to invest a total of 3,956 billion won to construct eight bridges, including the Daejeo Bridge and the Seo Nakdong River Bridge, as well as three intersections crossing the Nakdong River.
To alleviate chronic traffic congestion in the western Busan area and the resulting inconvenience to residents, the Daejeo Bridge construction project has been pursued since 2014.
After passing a preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Economy and Finance in April 2010 and establishing the road route with a strategic environmental impact assessment by the Ministry of Environment (Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office) in 2016, the project faced difficulties due to controversies over the impact on habitats for migratory birds.
To expedite the project, the city gathered opinions from residents and experts and prepared an environmental impact assessment containing measures to reduce the impact on winter migratory bird activities and habitats.
In January, an environmental impact assessment agreement was concluded with the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office, and on August 1st, permission for activities around the lower Nakdong River migratory bird habitats was obtained from the National Heritage Administration, completing all major administrative procedures.
The city aims to complete the Daejeo Bridge construction project by the end of 2029.
Mayor Park stated, “The groundbreaking of the Daejeo Bridge has opened the door for the long-stalled construction of the Nakdong River bridge over the past decade, marking a significant milestone. We aim to make it a symbol of sustainable growth while preserving ecological heritage.”
