The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) urged caution on the 12th, stating that phishing emails impersonating documents related to the martial law situation are being widely distributed.

The Ministry of Science and ICT and other agencies stated that since the martial law situation, there have been incidents of phishing emails impersonating government and public institutions, as well as malicious code disguised as related videos or images being discovered.

One representative case is the distribution of document-type malware disguised as martial law documents allegedly written by the Military Counterintelligence Command. The Ministry of Science and ICT advised, “Please do not open emails containing attachments purportedly related to martial law or download the files.”

They also urged people to be suspicious of links that encourage clicking within emails or spam messages and to refrain from clicking, and to immediately delete any with unclear site addresses.
